Following the star-studded affair of her last venture Luck By Chance, Zoya Akhtar is all set to wow the audiences once more with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, set to release in June 2011. It seems Zoya Akhtar and brother, Farhan, seem to bring a fresh take on any given story whenever they come together. From Lakshya to Luck By Chance and now Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara, the duo are all about making Indian cinema larger than life – more so than it is already.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has had an anticipation and excitement from the audiences and industry insiders from day one. With a star cast to satisfy almost every type of Bollywood fan, the Akhtars are sure to strike gold at the box office. The film (in case you don’t already know) stars Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Katrina Kaif. It also sees the return of Kalki Koechlin of Dev D fame. This will be the first time Roshan-Kaif come together as a pair and there is no doubt that this is jodi will create waves of a very sizzling nature.
The first look of the movie was released earlier today and seems to have upped the level of hysteria surrounding the movie. In a clever twist, the poster is such that it deliberately cuts off the top halves of Akhtar’s, Roshan’s and Deol’s faces. the three and seen to be walking in line in their respective character’s avatars. The focal point is Roshan who is topless. To the left is Akhtar donning a look which draws similarities to Arjun Rampal’s look in Rock On. On the other side of Roshan is Deol who is very casually seen to be in a mid-walk pose, as with the others. At first instance, the poster stands out because of the incomplete faces of the three male protagonists. What with the film’s plot being comparable to Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai, it remains to be seen how the various posters and first looks are different. It may seem like quite a task to give a movie it’s own identity when there is an admittedly general likeness to another very popular and cult-like entity but it seems this one is going to be in a class of its own.
The Akhtar clan, in the few years they have been making films, have given cinema some very “out there” subjects. As well as their very fresh perspectives on typical Bollywood movies, it seems their specific and intricate way of expressing life’s sentiments is what helps them stand out amongst the rest. The inclusion of details and the attention given to each character, scene, and dialogue in Luck By Chanceis sure to trickle through with this movie and Zoya Akhtar should be getting ready to celebrate. Judging by the potential, this movie is sure to be the summer success story of 2011. With a title which translates to “You will not live life again”, this road movie with friendship and adventure at it’s core may just evoke a cult-like following all over again.
On a personal level, I’ve got to say that this is my most awaited film of this year. Why? Well, it brings together three of the best male actors of recent years. I am yet to find a female who has not succumber to Roshan’s charms so it would be wrong of me to explain why he falls into my category of best male actors. Akhtar is a talent that makes even the most unlikeliest plots come to life. Deol is a quite possibly the most underrated actors the industry has churned out in the last decade. To bring these three together in a film about male-bonding and adventure could give them all a new lease of life, the kind of which will make everyone sit up and take notice. I sincerely hope that Zoya Akhtar uses each one of the three to her advantage without taking away their individualities which will ultimately pull in the audiences.
To conclude, I think this is perhaps one movie which will live up to if not outdo its potential. I just hope I’m not eating my words in the months to come!
