Birthdays… a time for celebration, reflection and to soak up all the love there is to be had in your world. A couple of years ago, I marked my birthday on my blog and I said that birthdays for me in the last few years have always become a time to reflect on achievements, to look at any improvements that can be made and new goals to be set. However, this year – as I celebrate my birthday today – I feel very differently. Looking back at the last year, it’s safe to say it’s been a rollercoaster. However, overall, the year has the makings of a definitive few months. Satisfied is not usually a word I would use but it is one that I think would fit the bill today. I am content in knowing that life is giving me some great opportunities and I am doing my very best to make sure that I am making the most of them!
As with 2011, I’ve taken to Twitter once again to let my Twitter family ask me the questions in a second one-off (and probably final one) of its kind. I’d like to thank you for all the wonderful questions you’ve asked and hope you’re able to get the answers you desired from me below – I’m sorry I can’t mention every one of you individually but I’m grateful to you all!
Why did you decide to be a journalist and when did it stuck your mind?
That’s one hell of a question to start with. Journalism is my career on the side, if you like. I was always interested in media but didn’t necessarily want to pursue a career in journalism. This is once again something that just came my way and I just kept making the most of the chances people gave me, and took advantage of the mediums put my way to express my opinions… and voila! Here I am!
What’s your weakest point?
Hmmm… I get weak when I care about something too much. I think that’s the same for everyone. My weaknesses are also my strengths – prime example being my friends and family.
Who can you not say “no” to whatever the case would be?
A very few select people in my life.
If you can define yourself in one word, what is this word?
What is your favourite cuisine? Name a dish of this cuisine.
I love Chinese food… noodles are my favourite. I could eat noodles every day and not get sick of them.
Are you home food or junky food?
I am probably junky food, as bad as that sounds! However, I could not do without my mum’s cooking. She’s the best cook!
Who are your favourite actor and favourite actress? (Bollywood and Hollywood)
I am more inclined to Bollywood, obviously! Fave actor of all time is Shah Rukh Khan and also Ranveer Singh of the new lot. As for actresses, I think Kajol is one of my fave actresses and out of the newer generation, I love seeing Parineeti Chopra on screen. Hollywood wise, I really love Bradley Cooper but no actresses really stand out for me.
Which is your all time favourite movie? (Bollywood and Hollywood)
Dil To Pagal Hai for Bollywood. In Hollywood, it’d probably be The Holiday and also Serendipity.
Do you have tattoo? If yes, where?
Love for you is …
… complicated, unconditional and hard to hide.
If you had 3 days to live, who would you want to spend it with and where?
Wow, that’s a great question! I think it’d be really a no-brainer. I would spend my last days with those close to me – my parents, my best friend and maybe other members of my family… and no place like home!
What is your favourite destination for vacation?
I think I would say my best holiday was when I went toMalaysia and Singapore. I also loveAbu Dhabi.
What is the man of your dreams like?
Hmmm… I don’t think he would have particular traits as such. However, I guess I’d want him to be loyal, expressive and a non-smoker.
What is your greatest flaw?
People always tell me I’m too honest for my own good!
What is your greatest quality?
I guess being honest is a good quality as well as a flaw but I think an even better quality is that, as a person, I am not very judgemental.
What is your favourite sentence?
“You mean the world to me” – that’s such a sweet thing to say!
What is your motto?
I don’t think I have a strict motto as such but I always say don’t judge a situation or a person through someone else’s eyes – always make judgements for yourself. What one person thinks or says is totally upto them but what you say and think it also upto you.
What is the thing that upsets you the most? Racism or injustice?
I think, to me, racism is also a form of injustice. I am a very honest person so if I had to choose then it would be injustice that upsets me the most.
What is your most beautiful memory?
There are so many… I’ll share one. I remember when I was about 4 or 5 years old, playing cards with my maternal grandfather. He would always teach me new games and also let me win… but those moments are very precious to me.
Have you ever fallen in love?
Yes. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt… and the scars.
What is the craziest thing you did for love?
Oh I’ve been pretty crazy in my time… you’ll have to just take my word for it!
How do you like to dress?
I like accessorising but I’m usually smart casual. I don’t think I can carry off the sporty look very well to be honest!
What is the most horrible thing you did in your life?
Everyone has a bad side. I think when I was younger in my teenage years, I had many fall-outs between friends. You get older and wiser but you realise that not everyone is your friend – it’s one of life’s most valuable lessons.
What or who inspired you the most to be what and who you are now… and how?
In all honesty, Bollywood inspired me. It is because of my interest in Bollywood that I am where I am today. Also, the fact that my command for the English language is pretty good and I have a certain style of writing has helped me too. I think it’s all about my passion! There have been many people who have inspired me along the way too but I wouldn’t like to pinpoint just one.
What did you always want to do as a kid? Is it the same as you are now or different?
I always wanted to meet Bollywood stars! I didn’t think I would ever be doing it in a professional way but more so as a fan. Needless to say, my approach towards a Bollywood star has changed because I am now a journalist!
If God appeared and asked you to choose 3 people you want to see in heaven with you later, who would they be?
My parents and my best friend – however, that’s a funny question to answer I think!
How has been the journey of your life until now?
It’s been no easy ride! However, as you live, you should always learn. There is a way of looking at life and everyone has a different vision. Never give up even in your darkest hour… persevere always.
What do you miss about being young?
Not having so many little things to stress about!
Which was the 1st birthday gift you got?
I have this giant panda cuddly toy gifted to me by my uncle for my 1st birthday. When I was a kid, it was bigger than me and my mum always told me that when she would tell me off, I’d go and sit on that cuddly toy’s leg and cry.
Which one wish do you still want fulfil?
I have a very many wishes that I still want to fulfil. I don’t think I could share just one!
What does your birthday mean to you?
Great question to end on! My birthday this year will be all about celebrating with the people most important to me all through the month. It’s all about spending time and not partying this time round… maybe a sign of me getting old!
A big thanks once again for such great questions… and for the birthday wishes already coming my way! Love you all for the love!
